ARTIST STATEMENT
Anna lives on Whadjuk Noonga Boodja on the coast of Western Australia, where she raises four children and writes with curiosity. After a childhood spent in the dark green fields of the English countryside, Anna now traverses the Pilbara tablelands with her family and explores cultural landscapes through her work. Writing creative non-fiction, fiction and autoethnographic essays, Anna’s creative practice sits at the intersection of art and academia. Anna is a qualified cultural anthropologist.
BIO
Anna graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Anthropology from University of Sussex, UK, specialising in Indigenous rights, material cultures, and representation. During this time, she completed an internship with a leading digital marketing agency near London, later working at a film production company in Brighton, UK.
From here, Anna took up roles in the cultural heritage industry in Western Australia, writing and editing content, as well as academic researching in Sydney and Perth. Anna has written content and copy for small creative brands, researched and written for publications, and most recently for Aboriginal corporations and organisations in the Pilbara. As a freelance writer, Anna’s work captures creativity and meaning drawn from cultural and social research, weaving poetry and art with knowledge systems.
In 2021, she founded boutique research and writing agency, Rufus Robin Studio, with husband, Indigenous researcher, Michael Charlton.
