We work across the Pilbara tablelands, urban Perth, Western Australia and the United Kingdom.

Founded by Anna Charlton in 2021 in response to what she saw as a lack of cultural context and nuance in mainstream marketing, Rufus Robin Studio weaves social science and creativity to deliver human-centred engagement strategy for businesses, brands and organisations.

It is the landing place of anthropologists and creatives - Yindjibarndi man, researcher and musician, Michael, and Anna, culture writer and creative researcher.

With tested experience across social research and communications, our studio reflects our professional and personal experiences, connecting First Nations knowledge systems, academic backgrounds and creative modalities. With tech now driving business and professional relationships more than ever, we are motivated by the philosophy that staying human in the modern world is critical for well-being, personal integrity and professional sustainability.

Rufus Robin Studio is a partnership between Anna and Michael Charlton. We work locally, across Western Australia and internationally.

About Anna

Writer | RESEARCHER | FOUNDER

I started my professional life in a helicopter. Fresh out of uni and the English countryside, I found myself in remote Western Australia, working as an anthropologist in the cultural heritage space. I had an eye for detail and a good story, and meticulous journaling soon meant I was report writing and editing at government level.

I turned to freelance with the birth of my first child. A creative itch to scratch, I loaned my writing skills to friends first, then friends-of-friends later, helping them kick off their own creative projects. Along the way, I saw the value of an anthropological lens in my creative writing. Subsequent work in the communications space - creating website copy, social media content, marketing and sales - for not-for-profits and sole traders called for my experience in social sciences to intersect with words. Cultural anthropology has so much to offer in this rapidly evolving digital world.

I live on Whadjuk Noongar country in Fremantle, WA with my young family. I host a community of creatives on Patreon, occasionally write for Instagram and practise my craft daily.
